Let’s Talk Details!
You won’t want to miss this huge festival that started as a 3-day event and expanded to six days in 2013 to give you more music. ACL’s festival is famous worldwide, and cities like Sydney and Auckland now have their own versions. This year, there will be eight stages with different musical styles—rock, indie, country, folk, electronic, hip-hop, and more.
And music isn’t the only fun — there’s also a mini-fest for kids! Your kids will love the music, interactive art, tattoo station, hip-hop workshop, drum zone, and punk hairdos they’ll find at Austin Kiddie Limits. Kids can dance and sing to tunes from Tim Kubart, Sonia De Los Santos, Ralph’s World, School of Rock, and more. They can create at the craft station, get pics at the rock star photo booth, and munch on popsicles. Plus, children ages eight and under attend for free with a paid ticketed adult (limit of two children per adult). You’ll need to get your kids Tag-A-Kid wristbands before you go inside, so check here for details.
The fun runs for twelve hours each day, from 10 AM to 10 PM. So you’ll definitely need to eat and drink. You’ll find plenty of choices at the ACL Eats Food Court, where area eateries offer everything from burgers to tacos to Tito’s. In between shows, everyone can enjoy the photo spaces and sponsored giveaways and merch spread throughout the park.
Each day has its own schedule, and you can easily check up on what’s going on in the ACL app. This year’s headliners are superstars! Alaniz Morissette starts off each Saturday night with her unique crooning vocals, leading into The Foo Fighters. Started by drummer Dave Grohl after the demise of Nirvana, this energetic alternative rock sextet takes the stage for 90 minutes. The Queen of Country Pop, Shania Twain, dazzles at the early show on both Saturdays. Mumford & Sons, a British folk-rock foursome, has the closing Sunday night slots.
More than 450,000 people attend ACL’s festival each year. Austin has become known as the Live Music Capital of the World — although the moniker can’t technically be proven, the name has stuck since the mid-1980s. And our Texas capitol does have thousands of live shows each year at more than 250 venues.
