One of the best things about Georgetown’s newest planned community, Parmer Ranch, is its proximity to Austin proper. Future residents can hop on I-35 and be in downtown Austin in roughly 45 minutes, making it incredibly convenient for work or a night out on the town, but far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
There’s always something happening in Austin and one event that we’re particularly excited about is the return of Rodeo Austin. The rodeo has been going on since 1938 and while it had to cancel festivities in 2020 and 2021, it’s back, and – by the looks of the event lineup – better than ever.
Throw on your boots and grab your best cowboy hat, because it all goes down at the Travis County Expo Center in East Austin March 12-26.
Bucking broncos and baby animals
The very first Rodeo Austin was a pretty small affair with just 16 animals, but it’s since expanded to be a full stock show with rip-roaring rodeo excitement!
The event will include 15 different horse and livestock shows, bringing in exhibitors from across the country. Among those 15 shows will be thousands of entries, all hoping to take top prize in their respective divisions. If you’ve ever been curious what a stock show is like or simply want to see some adorable barnyard critters (yes, there will be ducklings and chicks), be sure to check out this part of the rodeo.
What’s a rodeo without some action, right? Rodeo Austin pulls the top roping and riding talent in the country, and the various events are always a fan highlight.
Cowboys will be competing in traditional rodeo sporting events including – bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, tie-down roping, team roping, and the most dangerous of them all – bull riding. There’s even crowd-favorite, mutton bustin’, with the cowboys and cowgirls of tomorrow showing off their skills as they ride a bareback sheep.
From the first kick of dirt until the last lasso is tossed, the rodeo events are always a thrilling part of Rodeo Austin that’s not to be missed.
Saddle up for star-studded music events
Just about all the biggest country music legends of yesteryear have performed at Rodeo Austin and that tradition continues with today’s artists as well.
This year’s concert lineup spans the entire dates of the rodeo with 15 headlining artists. Fans will have the opportunity to see both music veterans such as Robert Earl Keen and The Oak Ridge Boys, as well as rising talent like Carly Pearce and Walk The Moon.
A range of ticket options are available from $30 to $175, it all depends on how close you want to be to the roping and music action. A concert or rodeo ticket includes admission to the fair, however, if you’re only interested in hitting up the fair and the many food vendors (we know you’re gonna want a funnel cake and corndog), tickets for adults are just $10 and $5 for kids ages 3-12.
Rodeo Austin is just one of the many fantastic things Georgetown residents love about this part of Texas. If you’d like to find a stunning new home at Parmer Ranch, contact us today.
