River Cruises at Lake Buchanan

Vanishing Texas River Cruises offers trips to some of the most beautiful ecological sites in and around Lake Buchanan. These trips are a great way to get out on the water at Lake Buchanan and see some of the more remote and inaccessible parts of Georgetown’s local ecosystem.

Their cruises run year-round, but different trips are available based on seasonality. Vanishing Texas also offers private charters around Lake Buchanan, as well as year-round kayak and canoe rentals.

Founded in 1981, Vanishing Texas River Cruises is a leading nature attraction in Texas. They’ve provided a unique Hill Country experience to more than 500,000 passengers over the years. It’s an experience that you don’t want to miss this summer.

Seasonal River Cruises

Scenic River Cruise (Memorial Day – Labor Day)

This is the original cruise that’s been running for four decades. The Scenic Wilderness Cruise offers an 18-mile journey across Lake Buchanan to the mouth of the Colorado River.

You can see regional and migrating birds, cascading waterfalls, native Texas Wildlife, and towering cliffs during the 2-3 hour journey. The knowledgeable tour guides narrate the history, geology, and points of interest along the way.

This flagship cruise is available from Memorial Day to Labor Day, twice on Saturdays and once on Sundays. This cruise is also available during the winter months on Wednesdays.

Ultimate Eagle and Birding Cruise (Mid November – February)

During the winter months, you can see the great American Bald Eagle make its return to Lake Buchanan. It’s a rare opportunity to see these iconic birds in their natural habitat. This wintertime trip also offers the chance to see tons of other migratory bird species that the Texas Hill Country is famous for.

The Ultimate Eagle and Birding Cruise lasts for 3-4 hours and usually leaves around 9 a.m.

Sunset Cruise (Memorial Day – Labor Day)

The sunset cruise provides a unique end-of-day experience with plenty of photo opportunities throughout. The cruise typically departs around 6 p.m. and travels the same route as the Scenic Wilderness Cruise over the course of two hours.

Bring your favorite beverage aboard and take in the setting Texas sun in style!

Private Charter and Rentals

Vanishing Texas River Cruises can also charter trips and tailor any of their experiences to your liking. They can collaborate with you to make your next special occasion that much more special. Or, if you want a more hands-on experience, you can rent canoes and kayaks to paddle yourself around the lake. Both are great options for enjoying the lake on your terms.
