Chills and Thrills: Your Guide to Haunted Tours and Festivals in Georgetown
It’s that time of year when even people who aren’t typically up for a scare are up for a fright night or two! Do ghostly apparitions and supernatural tales send chills up your spine? Maybe artwork that could have been on the famous TV show Night Gallery gets your heart racing. Or you may want to dress up and stroll the Square for good old-fashioned fun. Whatever spooks you, Georgetown has the scary—and fun—amusement you need to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
Start with a First Friday Ghost Tour in downtown Georgetown! Each Friday in October, you can get thrills and chills from stories of ghosts haunting the Square. A costumed Williamson Museum docent will take you on a tour beginning at 7:30 PM. If you want even more spooky excitement, take the Ghost Hunting tour closer to sundown. You’ll get hairy-raising stories, images, and interaction on this 1½-hour tour. Get your tickets early because space is limited.
If you want more than a tour, head to the museum on October 28th to investigate the paranormal yourself. Happy Haunting Hour: Spirits with Spirits gives you the chance to find supernatural signatures and spectral activities inside the museum. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, you can enjoy drinks, eats, and an interactive ghost tour around the Square. Get tickets early here!
Check out the Haunted Art House and Nosferatu musical movie screening free on October 20th! You won’t want to miss this Haunted Art Night. The house is not only full of scary art, but you can see a viewing of the first creepy vampire movie ever made to get your blood pumping. See the artwork first at Grace Chapel and then get your thrills on at the special presentation of the 1922 silent-film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula accompanied by the Central Texas Philharmonic.
Cap off your harrowing Halloween nights out at Boo Bash Trunk-or-Treat in the Square on Sunday, October 29th, from 1 PM-4 PM. Come in costume for trunk-or-treating — what will you and your kids be this year? If you really want to scare your kids and neighbors, be the Demogorgon from Stranger Things. For a creepy but not-too-scary kids’ costume, consider Wednesday Addams, the new version from the current show, or the classic from the vintage TV series. Or go with cute looks that are always popular: Barbie, Batman, Captain Jack, and Tinkerbell.
Your whole family will have plenty to do at the bash. The kids can jump in bounce houses, play games, and gather treats (hopefully no tricks!). Grown-ups will enjoy the classic car show, vendor booths, and DJ music. And there’ll be cute furry friends dressed in their best at the pet costume contest. Sign up your pet to walk the runway to try for the top prize!
