Cupid’s Chase 5K in Georgetown

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you’re looking for a fun way to burn some extra calories before indulging in those Valentine’s chocolates, we have just the thing. Lace-up your running shoes and limber up, because it’s time for the annual Georgetown Cupid’s Chase 5K!

What and When is the Cupid’s Chase 5k?

Runners, take your mark. The race takes place on February 11, 8 AM in San Gabriel Park. This is a community event open to all but you will need to register ahead of time to participate.

The race itself has been going on for 28 years, so this is a longstanding February tradition here in Georgetown. It’s an incredibly fun race that benefits the Georgetown Parks Department and is on the shorter side as far as races go at just 5K or 3.1 miles. The race course will start at 445 E. Morrow St in San Gabriel Park before looping around College and Hoyt Streets and ending back at the start.

Kids Can Get in on the Racing Action Too

Kiddos aren’t left out of the action and have their own race they can participate in before the main event. Kids 10 and under can run or walk in this non-timed race with the fun run starting along Morrow St., before turning around and returning on the same path back at the starting line (approx. 0.62 miles).

Each little runner who participates will also receive a short-sleeved t-shirt and a goody bag!

Additional Info Runners Should Know

Participants and volunteers can park within San Gabriel Park, but parking may be limited. It’s advised not to park at the VFW or Masonic Lodge. Dogs are welcome to run with their humans, but are required to be kept on a non-retractable leash and owners are fully responsible for cleaning up after their pets.

Being that this is a race, there has to be a winner, and “awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners and the overall male and female masters winners.” There will also be awards handed out to the top three male and female finishers in each age division. There’s even a special divisional award for the top male and female runners who are also Georgetown city employees.

Whether you come in first or last isn’t important though – it’s how you look on camera! We’re only kidding, but Photo Wolfe will be on deck to photograph the festivities as runners make their way through the course and cross the finish line. Runners can also download their photos for free after the race and by the looks of last year’s photos, this should be another incredibly fun event for all!

Volunteers Needed

Even if you’re not going to be hitting the pavement, you can still participate as volunteers are essential to this event’s success. You can register to volunteer by yourself or with a group and all volunteers will receive a free t-shirt as well as water and snacks on the morning of the big event.

Whether this is your first 5k or you were bitten by the running bug long ago, there are plenty of ways to get some exercise in Georgetown.
