Everything You Need to Know About Southwestern University

Texas is one of the fastest-growing states in the US (United States Census Bureau). Over the years, it has emerged as an educational hub and hosts more than 200 higher education institutions. Texas and its cities offer a blended learning opportunity where students can study on campus or online.

And when it comes to universities in Texas, Southwestern University  in Georgetown is one of the leading universities with a track record of educational excellence over the years.

History of Southwestern University

Although officially chartered as Southwestern University in 1875, their roots extend back to 1840, making it the oldest institution of higher learning in Texas. The school affiliates with the United Methodist Church, but its curriculum is non-sectarian.

In 1870 the school was chartered as Texas University, and first opened in Georgetown in 1873. In 1875, however, the Texas Legislature revoked the school name. The school became Southwestern University, as Texas University was planned for another upcoming state school.

More than half of the student body studies abroad or participates in an off-campus program, with academic and service opportunities in major cities like New York and London and countries like Germany and Jamaica.
