#GeorgetownEats: The Golden Rule | Parmer Ranch | Georgetown Texas

Georgetown: The Golden RuleAs residents of Georgetown know, the charming Texas city attracts visitors from all over the state (and out of state as well) for numerous reasons – one of those being its food. With a list of local restaurants serving freshly-prepared foods ranging from barbecue and pizza to international fare, the culinary scene here is a hot attraction for anyone who enjoys a standout meal.

One of the restaurants that’s become a favorite among locals (and is sure to pop up should you search #GeorgetownEats on social media), is The Golden Rule

The restaurant, located just a block from Georgetown Square, didn’t launch at the most opportune time when it opened its doors in July 2020. After all, many restaurants were struggling just to keep the lights on during the early months of the pandemic.

Even though the restaurant’s owners Cody Hirt and Brad Strittmatter could only operate at 50% capacity for those first few months, they told Community Impact it was actually a blessing in disguise.

“Had the pandemic not happened, we might have been inundated with customers,” Hirt explained. “Instead, it let us kind of ease into it where we could get our feet under us; our employees could really figure out what they were doing, the ins and outs of our menu.”

A Menu That’s Making For Repeat Customers

The restaurateurs have had no trouble drawing in customers and even won the Texas Downtown Association People’s Choice Award for Best Downtown Business just a year after opening.

Hirt and Strittmatter knew they wanted a menu that had a broad appeal but also drew from their past experiences. To accomplish the job, they brought in head chef Juan Ramirez. The result is an eclectic menu that draws upon Texas flavor with some creative culinary twists.

Diners will have no trouble finding the perfect appetizer to kick off their meal with small plate choices such as standard favorites like Queso and Carne Asada Fries to more unique offerings like Cantonese Riblets, Chicken Liver Mousse, or Roasted Shishito Peppers.

The menu also features an array of delicious salads such as the Roasted Beet Salad with arugula, goat cheese, toasted pepitas, and citrus vinaigrette. If a sandwich is more up your alley, you can’t go wrong with the Yard Bird (a fried chicken breast with firecracker aioli on a potato roll) or the Elk Double Smash Burger (with two ground beef/elk patties, this burger is a big bite).

When it comes to entree dishes, steak fans need not worry. The restaurant offers a variety of mouthwatering steaks such as the Wagyu Filet Mignon and Dry Aged Bone-In Ribeye. Other popular dinner dishes you’ll want to consider ordering include the Candied Pecan Fried Chicken and Sea Scallops and Bacon. Hungry yet?

Obviously, you’ll need something to help wash down all those tasty eats and The Golden Rule hasn’t skimped on the drink selection. With a drink menu offering up everything from wine and beer to craft cocktails like Black Moon Rising (Buffalo Trace, Black Walnut, and bitters) and the Evergreen (Empress Gin, lemon, basil, thyme, and mint) The Golden Rule is not surprisingly becoming the place in town to enjoy happy hour.
