Ask any economist and they’ll tell you that Texas is on fire when it comes to job growth and a robust economy. The Lone Star state, and particularly Central Texas, saw record job growth in 2021, with major companies such as Samsung and Tesla moving to and expanding in the area.
One of the best things about Georgetown is that residents have the benefit of nearby Austin and its stellar job market, but still can enjoy the pace of a smaller city. According to data from the Austin Chamber of Commerce, Austin has ranked as the fourth-best performing job market since the start of the pandemic and the area is seeing record growth in a number of industries.
Below, we’ll cover some of the job sectors around Georgetown that Parmer Ranch residents may be interested in if they’re on the job hunt.
Tech
As we mentioned above, Tesla and Samsung are two major tech companies in the Austin area, but they’re hardly alone. Apple has had an office in the area since the ‘90s, but in 2022 the tech giant will be opening a massive billion-dollar campus with 5,000 employees and the capacity to bring on an additional 10,000 more.
Dell also has a huge presence in the area with an office in Round Rock – only around 10 miles from Georgetown. As of January 2022, Indeed listed some 700 jobs with Dell’s Central Texas branch.
IBM, of course, is another huge name in tech and the company employs some 6,000 people in the area.
Education
Not only does the Georgetown Independent School District have a graduation rate of over 95%, but it employs 1,500 members of the local community. And another major education employer, located right here in Georgetown, is Southwestern University. Founded in 1840, the private liberal arts school has just over 1,500 students and employs 976 people.
Manufacturing
Georgetown is home to one of the largest manufacturers of electronic components in the state – AirBorn Inc. The 100% employee-owned company makes connectors, cables, and circuit boards that can be found in everything from medical devices to military defense applications and airplanes. AirBorn has been around since 1958 and is still going strong, employing some 10,000 workers.
Retail and Hospitality
Central Texas is home to some fantastic shopping and dining with several large shopping centers in the area providing thousands of jobs. Located in nearby Round Rock, The Domain is a massive all-in-one shopping center, with hundreds of stores and a wide array of restaurants serving everything from quick bites to high-end dining.
1890 Ranch bills itself as Cedar Park’s “premier shopping center” and it’s easy to see why. With big-box stores such as Target, Pet Smart, Hobby Lobby, and Academy among others, it’s a big employer in the area for those looking for both full or part-time work.
Located here in Georgetown, the Wolf Ranch Town Center is another larger employer in the retail and hospitality industry. The open-air mall houses top retailers such as Kohl’s, Old Navy, T.J. Maxx, and Best Buy, as well as over a dozen restaurants ranging from Chick-fil-A to Longhorn Steakhouse.
With a range of industries and a strong job market, it’s easy to see why living in Georgetown and Parmer Ranch has so much appeal.
