Georgetown TexasSummer in Georgetown, Texas

Georgetown offers an abundance of Texas-sized fun throughout the year, but there’s just something special about the hazy days of summer. Whether it’s hitting up a local swimming hole or cooling off with a scoop of ice cream, there’s always something exciting waiting around the corner in Georgetown during the summer months.

Visitors and locals alike can’t go wrong with these summer activities in Georgetown. The only question is, which will you do first?

Escape the heat below the surface

No air conditioning? No problem. Just head underground to Inner Space Cavern where the year-round temperature is a constant 72 degrees. The cave has been a popular attraction since its discovery in the 1960s and with three different tours available from all ages beginner to advanced caving for the older explorers, there’s a cave tour for everyone. Visitors who are looking for an extra dose of excitement after finishing their cave tour will want to check out the new Saber Tooth Zip ride. The tandem ride sends riders soaring through the air at 33 mph.

Cool off and take a dip

One of the best ways to beat the Texas heat is with a dip in the water and there’s no shortage of ways to do so in Georgetown. Several public pools and splash pads can be found on the Georgetown Parks & Recreation site, or if you’re a resident of Parmer Ranch, you have a community pool to look forward to! Although the amenity center and pool are not complete yet, they’ll be the perfect way to escape the heat in upcoming summers. If you’re looking for something a bit more outdoorsy, you can’t go wrong with Blue Hole Park along the South Fork of the San Gabriel River. The summer months are also an ideal time to fish or simply enjoy a leisurely afternoon kayaking on the river and San Gabriel Paddlesports offers both boat rentals and guided fishing trips.

Satisfy your sweet tooth

Sometimes it’s just nice to slow down and cool off in the comfort of the indoors in the summer. Add in some tasty treats and it doesn’t get much better. Whether you’re looking for cookies, ice cream, or both (no judgment) there are a number of local dessert destinations offering sugary confections. If it’s ice cream you desire, then you can’t go wrong with The Yard Milkshake Bar or Scoops ice cream shop. Perhaps you like your ice cream wedged between two freshly baked cookies. If that’s the case, then do yourself a favor and hit up The Baked Bear this summer for a custom ice cream sandwich.

Tap your toes and wet your whistle

Austin might be the live music capital of the world, but you don’t have to look far to find great live music in Georgetown. After the summer sun has set, head over to Barrells & Amps to grab a bite, grab a beer, and boogie down with live bands on Friday and Saturday nights. Rentsch Brewery is also a favorite local watering hole that supports the music scene with frequent concerts from local performers. In addition to both a staple and rotating list of beers, a variety of food trucks are on-site to offer up delicious eats.
