Winter Wonderland on Stage: Local Holiday Theater and Shows
Take a break from shopping and gift wrapping to see some excellent entertainment this holiday season around Georgetown. The local shows and theater performances are both impressive and festive! There’s a variety to choose from: a musical version of a beloved Christmas tale, a traditional ballet performance, a holiday comedy, and music concerts. Choose a few or see them all if you are really looking for a unique way to get in the holiday spirit.
A Christmas Carol
Instead of streaming the most famous Christmas story of all time, watch it live this year. Georgetown’s Palace Theatre will play host to the musical version on weekends and certain weekdays through December 30th. Your whole family will enjoy this new take on the classic Charles Dickens novella with music by Broadway composers Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens. Showtimes and tickets are available here!
Sorry! Wrong Chimney!
For a lot of laughs and some lighthearted holiday fun, see Sorry! Wrong Chimney! You’ll laugh your way through mistaken identities and crazy situations the characters get themselves into. This show has everything—a department store Santa, a suspicious wife, bad guys, and a confused policeman. Shows are running from December 8th to 30th (and some are sold out!), so get your tickets and hang on for a fun holiday romp.
The Nutcracker, Twice
You can choose from two different renditions of The Nutcracker, or go to both and compare notes. The Austin Dance Conservatory will perform a colorful and lively version at the Georgetown Palace Theatre on December 1st and 2nd. Their dancers come from dance studios all over Central Texas, so you may even see someone you know on stage. Then, on December 16th and 17th, the North Austin Ballet Theatre performs its 7th annual Nutcracker show at Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center. Both versions are beautifully choreographed so it may be hard to choose (or not if you decide to see both).
Sun City Dulcimers Concert
Have you ever been to a dulcimer singalong concert? Well, if you haven’t, this is the time! This music provided by the string instrument is unique and fun, and you get to be part of the show if you want. The free event is December 17th at Georgetown Public Library, featuring the Sun City Mountain Dulcimers accompanied by Blue Skies Band.
Home for the Holidays Concert
Also, on December 17th, you can enjoy the Central Texas Philharmonic and Round Rock Community Choir’s performance of Home for the Holidays. You can also sing along with old favorites during this show, and look forward to a special surprise guest.
